| Haytham leaned forward registering the look on Shays face. "I'm sorry Shay, i didn't want someone else to tell you, i know its less than ideal but i couldn't be nice about it. Not after what they did to him." his face was a snarl
"that's why i've brought everything forward by at least 2 months, you'll meet the team tomorrow, one of them, the comms officer, Hickey, has the intel we need to find out who did this, and when we find out we're going to hunt them and make them suffer."

| Trying to calm himself, Shay finally knocked the whisky back, before staggering back over to have another. Pouring out a generous amount, he threw is back as easy as water.
Suddenly an overwhelming numbness came over him, like nothing mattered anymore. He had officially lost everything important to him; it was all gone, everything had been stripped from him... But that meant he had nothing left to lose anymore.
"Twenty minutes.." He didn't he so much as glance at the other man as he left the room.

| Sat comfortably in the lounge with a small glass of scotch in hand, Shay felt as though he could breathe for the first time in a couple of week. It had gone by so fast, but so much had happened.
His first full day here had been appalling, yet he'd managed to stumble through it; with help from the Grandmaster, of course. Even if that came in the form of a good arse kicking and some humiliation, but somehow it was just what he needed. Either way, he slept like a baby that night and most of the nights since they'd started their training together.
The meeting they'd had the day after dealt another impossible blow to the ex-assassin. Although he'd met some impressive new colleagues, they'd gone over the death of Monro which was painful enough, but Hickey shared some CCTV footage of the incident. He was definitely killed by assassin's, there was at least three of them there; their uniforms were unmistakable and one was without a doubt La Chasseur. Even then, that wasn't what truly shook him up, it was that one of the men looked to be Liam; the height, the build and the small little differences he had done to his clothing, but it was too difficult to be 100% sure with the grainy footage... Or was he just trying to tell himself that? Either way, he hadn't been able to tell anyone of his suspicions. He needed to be positive, and even then, was he truly capable of condemning Liam to death at the hand of The Order?
Hickey had mentioned something about trying to clean up the footage to get a better look, but there was something in Shay that didn't want to know the truth, because he knew what that meant he would have to do.
Since then, he'd been fully inducted into the order and spent a large amount of his time learning and grasping how everything worked around here.
Even with all these distractions, the Irishman still found himself struggling from time to time. And overwhelming numbness seem to have lingered, but he'd tried his best to get along with everyone.
Now he was sat thinking about everything, he sighed, the pain of everything wasn't just going to leave him. The nightmares had started coming back again already; perhaps he and Haytham needed to up their training... He had an hour before they began.

| Haytham had had a moderately good day. The team was being productive and achieving results at last with at least one suspect clearly identified and hopefully the other two would be soon as well. Shaking the rain off his coat and shutting out the bad weather he was glad to be back for some rest, but only after his sparring session with Shay, something he now looked forward to each day for some reason. Possibly as Shay was an equal and very talented. It had been a very long time since anyone had been up to his level and the change was refreshing if not to say downright challenging some days.
Entering the lounge he saw the object of his thoughts sat with a drink. "evening Mr Cormac. I do hope you haven't forgotten you'll be sparring soon?" for the first time in weeks Shay seemed a little less tense than he had been but Haytham was unsure if that would be a positive thing or not. Swiping a hand through damp hair he poured himself his own measure of alcohol at the side table and took a seat opposite the other man. "you're making good progress."

| "Evenin', sir." Shay nodded over his glass to the other man. Being in Haytham's company had somehow become something the Irishman started taking pleasure in. It seemed strange but they always seemed to having something to talk about, and when they didn't, they were training together.
Their nightly training sessions were something he looked forward to. The challenge the older man presented was unmistakable and Shay had been surprised how out of practice he had become after leaving the assassins. It was over a year since he'd sparred with anyone of such skill.
Shay was sure that if he wasn't involved in the sparring matches, he would be mesmerised by the other man. As much as he hated to admit it considering their positions, the Grandmaster was easy on the eye when a bit roughed up and sweaty.
"Of course not. Just thought I'd get a little R'n'R whilst I could." He sipped at the amber liquid in the glass, savouring its taste.
"Thank you." A small smile spread across his lips. "It's been a lot to take in, but also a welcome distraction."

| "God knows we need some distraction at the moment." He took a sip of whisky. "And i mean it Shay, you're healing well, that shoulder isn't slowing you down one bit and the rest of it you've picked up in days what others have taken years to learn." He sat back regarding the other man, he was really quite impressive considering except for the unspoken trauma and Shay hadn't taken up the offer of the counsellor yet which was concerning.
"If there's ever anything you want to talk about please don't hesitate, I'm not going to judge you or order you about."

| "I've not got time to waste, sir. The assassins aren't going to stop whilst I test the waters." Shay laughed a little. This was a stark contrast to the Brotherhood. To be told he was doing well rather than constantly being told he had to do better; not that he really begrudged his previous mentors ways, he knew why they did it. There was always room for improvement.
"Mn." The younger man nodded before finishing off the last of the liquid in his glass. Talking both seemed like it would be a blessing and utter hell, but for how long could he keep all this to himself. There was being strong and being reckless; which was he?
"Even if I did talk, I wouldn't know where to start.." Something inside him was scared about opening up. What if he said something he regretted. What if he broke down. What if he looked weak to the Grandmaster.. To Haytham. He'd began to like this man, almost enough to be willing to talk, but he was an emotional mess and didn't want to lay it on him.
"I'll be fine, sir, you have enough to deal with with, without my rambling." Shay decided to try and sweep it under the rug; it was true, the older man didn't need this on his plate, he had enough on his own. Even though he knew everything he'd been through was traumatic, Lisbon would be with him forever....Yet at times he felt as though he was pathetic for struggling, and that thought only made things worse and increased the guilt.

| "Shay, we're all human, we're all fallible. Including me, maybe especially me. I need you to be able to function at your best, this is holding you back somewhat. When we're in the field I am your commander, here, now, I'm a concerned friend. The longer you keep this locked up, the bigger the breakdown will be. I've been there believe it or not."
He stared at the liquid in his glass, memories flooding his mind, after all this time it still hurt, still threatened to drag him back into the abyss. Swigging the last of the drink he allowed himself a moment of relaxation to just sit and be a man drinking with a friend and not a commander, businessman or Templar.
He liked Shay, the man had been through a terrible ordeal and was determined to make things right no matter the cost. "We can't hope to change the world, but we can do our best to change ourselves and in doing so make the world a better place."

| Eyes still on Haytham, a sad smile briefly crossed Shay's lips as he watched the other looking at the contents of his glass. Shifting from his chair, the Irishman grabbed the bottle of whisky before sitting down and pouring himself out another small measure. "Never have wiser words been spoken." He placed the bottle on the table and slid it towards the older man.
"I suppose it seems pointless lyin' and sayin' I'm okay then?" He laughed, resting back into the chair. They both had a little while before their session, so a short chat wouldn't hurt; he needn't go into too much detail.
"'m struggling to deal with what happened in Lisbon.." As he started talking, Shay brought the glass up to his lips, trying to hide the instant reaction that happened each time he allowed himself to think about. Taking a deep breath, he struggle to push aside the guilt and panic as he spoke on.
"I told you that it was caused by the assassins.... but it was my mission." His mind kept trying to delve deeper, to remind him of what happened, but Shay pushed to stay focused on the here and now. ".. I was to retreive the artifact alone. I was the one who disturbed it. The one that caused the earthquake... The things I saw... It's not the sort of thing that leaves you."
It was hard keeping it together. The only other person he'd even come close to talking about Lisbon to was Monro and even then, it had been quite brief. ".. To think I could have stopped it."
Clearing his throat, Shay decided that that was enough on that specific topic, if he continued, it would be bad. "All I can do now is stop Achilles from sending another poor sod to do the same." The idea of Liam or Hope having to go through what he had would kill him.

| Haytham accepted the bottle and helped himself to more, he might just need it in the next few moments, just a small amount though, he couldn't afford to jeopardize his functionality at this point. The words sunk in slowly and Haytham realized what Shay was telling him, even with the missing details. No wonder the guy was messed up. All those lives lost and Shay had left Lisbon after seeing the slaughter that he'd caused, albeit unintentionally.
His voice was low as he replied, "Thank you for trusting me enough to talk and not glossing it over like you have been. I knew you were struggling but i didn't want to push it." he made eye contact with the other man. "come to me any time you need. I mean it. Can't have you being unpredictable and so forth." he couldn't quite set aside command even in relaxation but he didn't want Shay to suffer.
Remembering the item in his pocket he reached in and held the object in his hand a moment. "I..." he cleared his throat, "i have something for you. George, Monroe, wanted you to have this. He'd been talking about retiring from the Order and had mentioned you in messages, I know he'd want you to have this"
Haytham reached over the table towards the other man and hoped this might give him a tiny amount of peace for at least one of the tragedies of his life, carefully placing the Templar ring down in front of Shay. It had been cleaned this morning after he'd opened the package from the Order in America, even so it was still slightly tarnished.

| It was nice having someone Shay felt he could talk to. Haytham seemed genuinely concerned, although it was difficult to tell if it was as a friend or boss at times; the man had the knack of switching between both at a rate of knots. "I'll always do my best for The Order, sir." He nodded reassuringly, he didn't want to seem like a ticking time bomb. Maybe he had said too much.
The ring had come as quite the surprise; for a short moment, Shay stared at it in thought before daring to pick it up. Holding it between his fingers, he twirled it around, taking in the imperfections from the fire. It was tarnished.. Much like himself. This ring held so much meaning; obviously he would always look at it and remember the man that save his life, but there was more. It was accepting that Monro had been right all along and there was no better man Shay would have liked to have been proven wrong by. Just this small gesture gave Shay some small hope and a ton a ton of determination; he'd continue on for Monro in the times he couldn't go on for himself. If he could end up being half the man George Monro was, then he'd know he'd done right in life.
"I..." Shay held the ring clenched in his palm, before finally looking back up to Haytham, clearly quite taken aback by the gesture. "Are you sure? He was important to you as well."

| Hoping that he hadn't done the wrong thing, Haytham was happy that he'd been able to do something nice for this man who was fast becoming a friend and an equal.
"Quite sure Shay, i have many memories of George and i'm used to having to say goodbye to people. Just having had him as a friend for so long was enough, his advice to me was gift enough. Just him wanting you to have that is good enough for me."
He stood and stretched, bones cracking slightly, "I think i'm going to go get changed and get started downstairs, take any time you need." He had noticed the pain in Shays eyes and it made him uncomfortable and was at a loss on how to continue. Clearing his throat he stood there a moment longer, "That is, unless you want to carry on talking? I'm not very good at this being supportive thing...I'm not used to having friends"

| "Thank you. This means a lot." Still holding the ring close, Shay watched the other move from his spot, realising he may have felt awkward. Hoping he hadn't said anything to upset the other, he just listened, surprised at his last words.
How could this man not be use to having friends? Shay almost couldn't believe it until he remembered how he himself had felt around the Grandmaster to start with. Perhaps most people couldn't get past that?
"No. I think I'll get changed in a bit." Shifting to the front of his chair, he looked his new friend in the eye. "Ya know, the same goes for you. 'm always here if you want to talk." It hadn't been his intention to get close to anyone here, he'd told himself that he didn't need to, but Shay wasn't the type to keep people at a distance.
The relationship he had with this man seemed like an odd one, they appeared to have a lot in common and he felt as though there was more to it, even if he wasn't sure just what yet. Not that he'd ever dare use the words, but he saw a kindred spirit in the older man.
"Oh, and thank you again, Haytham. It means a lot to know I have a friend in you."

| Uncomfortably Haytham shifted from foot to foot, unsure of himself. Clearing his throat he started, "yes, well, of course. I'll meet you down there then."
He'd had an idea on how to push Shay's training and after yesterday's right hook and headbutt, Haytham wanted a bit of an edge, his pride demanded it. With a wave he headed off towards the door to get changed.

| Haytham tried not to rush but after getting half dressed and returning to his rooms he quickly washed the sweat off and dressed lightly in a silky cashmere black jumper and clean trousers in anticipation. A slight smell of cloves and cinnamon hung onto the fabric from where it had been stored.
Slipping loafers on his bare feet he grabbed a bottle from the bathroom, slipping it into a pocket where it wouldn't be noticed by casual observation. He forced himself to walk steadily to the opposite side of the house where Shay was and knocked lightly on the door.

| Upon reaching his room, Shay shrugged off his clothes and let his hair fall free before entering the bathroom. Climbing into the shower, he quickly washed himself off, trying not to waste time in case he wouldn't hear Haytham at his door.
Turning the shower off, he wrapped one of the soft white towels around his hips, grabbing another to dry off the worst of his soaking hair. Soon draping the towel over his shoulders, he went back into the main room, debating whether to put some clothes on just before he heard the knock at the door. With a bit of a grin, he figured he'd use his current state to his advantage.
Pulling the door open, he made no attempt to hide his smirk. "Glad you could make it." Turning away, Shay removed the towel from his shoulders and hung it over a nearby chair before walking further into the room.

| Haytham honestly thought that if Shay was genuine he might have changed his mind, or at the very least had some excuse, but there he was almost naked and waiting, water residue sheening his body. In the light there was nothing left to the imagination. The other man had just as many scars as he did. Unconsciously his hand strayed to the one at his waist on the right. The skin was still pink and ached sometimes from the stab wound. The ones on the other man just as recent and just as raw.
Closing the door quietly behind him he leaned against it observing Shay a moment. "O? Really?" The damp towel was set down but all he could think about was removing the one between him and that attractive hard body. In three strides he was across the room turning the other man to face him, yanking his head back so he could gently bite down his neck careful to leave no visible marks that might be remarked on, other hand pulling hips hard against him and cupping his arse through the fabric.

| The consequences of what they'd started was only a faint nagging at the back of his mind, Shay wasn't stupid, he knew this could create problems, but he was too caught up in the moment. Given everything that had happened, physical comfort was something he found difficult to just let slide by, especially since he had been lacking in both that and emotional support.
His thoughts were abruptly thrown aside as he was turned to face Haytham, his head pulled back and teeth now grazing his neck; the actions went straight to his cock. "... Fuck.. hn.." He groaned, reaching up to clench a hand into the others hair.
Placing a hand on Haytham's hip, he guided them both towards the bed, liking where this was going.

| "That was the general idea." He smirked somewhat in anticipation following Shay into his bedroom, teeth against the man's throat. Yanking at the towel he threw it on the floor as they went and then pushed Shay down onto the bed and climbed over him kissing up the scarred torso careful not to use teeth on the new wounds, hands skimming flesh.
"Have you any idea how attractive you are?" He looked into Shay's eyes, "how do you want to do this?"

| Back hitting the bed, Shay's eyes followed the other as he climbed over him, happily giving into the sensation of the lips and hands exploring his body.
The complement threw him off in its sincerity; it made him feel something he wasn't entirely sure of. It wasn't the first time he'd been told he was attractive, a certain previous lover had managed to catch him off guard in the same manner before now. It wasn't a bad feeling, just something he couldn't quite place in the moment. "... I could easily say the same for you." With a small smile, he returned the gaze, his hands running down Haytham's back, before ducking under the edge of his jumper and around his waist to feel the taut muscle of his abs.
"I can't lie, I'm rather enjoyin' the feelin' of being under you." Shay was far from the shy type, but having to say what he wanted made his cheeks burn lightly; it had been a while since he found himself under another man like this.
"You can do what you like.. But.." Reaching down to the bottom of Haytham's jumper, he tugged it up.. "This needs to go."

| "And there was I about to ask what was off limits..." He stood and slowly pulled the soft jumper, taking his time, the bottle he took from his pocket and placed on the bed, next went the trousers and pants, again slowly and deliberately keeping his eyes on Shay. Once naked he was again over the other man, resting on his elbows already half hard at just the sight before him.
The was something about this man, unknown but yet familiar. Haytham searched his face unsure of what he was looking for, hesitant before pushing it aside and capturing the man's lips in a searing kiss, sucking on his bottom lip while hands went straight to his bum, kneading. Teeth beginning again down the neck, tasting Shay.
Hand on the bottle he warmed the lube before even touching the other man's cock working it all over and down the crack of his arse to make putting his finger in easier. He had no idea how long it had been but he wasn't about to make this hurt by not stretching him. He couldn't help the groan that escaped his lips or his hips from jerking against Shay's thigh.

| Any thoughts to reply soon left Shay's head as he noticed Haytham removing his clothes, albeit tormentingly slowly. His eyes watched the other hungrily, taking in the sight in front of him. As much fun as their encountered in the gym had been a short while before, with the lights out, it had meant they'd missed the chance to appreciate each others bodies completely.
Returning the kiss as fervently as he recieved, the younger man nipped at the others lip, gently grazing his teeth across the delicate skin as he moved onto his neck. Shay's hands made their way down the toned muscles of Haytham's back, stopping at his hips as he noticed the other lifting the bottle and coating his fingers.
In anticipation, Shay found himself shifting lightly and parting his legs to give the other easier access. The sensation of Haytham toying at his his entrance, caused a small moan to escape his lips.
Feeling the man's length jerk against his thigh along with that groan made his own cock throb needily, he wanted more. Without thinking, Shay's hips shifted towards the others hand, looking for more.. "Nmh.. Please.." He groaned out.

| "All in good time Mr Cormac. Be patient." He really wished he could take his own advice, Shay made it very difficult. His thumb grazed across the scar that ran down Shay's face lightly rubbing against it as he kissed over the muscles of the man's chest as his hand continued working over his cock and balls, teasing at his arse. It wasn't long before he couldn't take it any more. Shay was so responsive and felt so good that he couldn't take his own advice and quickly pushed a finger inside but not moving so he had time to adjust to the sensation. Haytham bit down on a nipple as he did this doing his best to make sure they both got what they wanted as quickly as possible with the least discomfort.
"I'm sorry, I can't hold out much more Shay" he pushed another finger in slowly, moving this time hoping that he wouldn't damage Shay. His hips rubbing against the man's thigh, lips trailing wherever he could reach, teeth grazing. He moved his other hand down grasping at Shay's cock, slowly thumbing the head. Hands working in tandem in a slow rhythm, fingers moving around inside him trying to find the spot that would drive him wild. The feel of soft skin and tight wet heat almost undoing him.

| Feeling the first finger press into him, Shay let out a small groan, trying to stop his hips from bucking against the sensation. It felt as though he was going to go crazy from all the attention Haytham lavished on his body; it was too much, but not nearly enough.
"Jesus...." Shay groaned, a hand curling into the bed linen as the other worked him, his hips now no longer able to stay motionless. Reaching up, he pulled Haytham into a rough kiss, his hand letting go of the bedsheet and travelling between them both to grasp at the other mans cock, gently squeezing, he broke the kiss again.. "..Fuck me."
