Family Drama (Richard and George AU)

Post by Assassino on Sat Dec 10, 2016 10:49 pm

To say he was in a bad mood was an understatement, even with recent events, this was more than usual. Slamming the front door behind him, Richard threw his keys and phone on the side with a scowl. As if George and Edward fighting wasn’t bad enough, they were both now hell bent on dragging him into it. Like he could be expected to take sides. If it wasn’t difficult enough being expected to choose between family members, it was certainly difficult choosing who was in the right, especially since both of them, in his opinion, were being idiots.

With a groan, the slender man brushed dark curly locks from his face before shrugging his jacket off and hanging it on a nearby by rack. He wasn’t even sure if George was home at the moment, but luckily for the middle brother, Richard was currently more aggrieved by Edward, not that that meant he was entirely off the hook.

Lately, his and George’s relationship had been strained. They managed to live side by side with little drama, save the occasional argument, but they weren’t as close as they use to be. At least mentally. They still found themselves sleeping together quite regularly, but it was lacking in the affection they use to show. In some respects the younger brother missed it, though in others, he understood it was something that could never have lasted. It had always been unavoidable, though their encounters offered some level of comfort and timeout in what was incredibly stressful times.

It had been a few years since they’d both moved in together. Since then Richard had matured quite a bit, both mentally and physically. The angelic looking young boy had grown into a handsome and somewhat careworn looking man. The dark curls were longer now, but brushed entirely from his face, revealing pale skin set over perfectly defined cheekbones and jawline. Though he still had his moments, it was certainly harder to describe him as ‘cute’ as he had once appeared.

As times had progressed and become ever increasingly stressful, he had adapted, no longer taking things in such a carefree manner, becoming more involved with what was going on around him. Richard wouldn’t have it any other way, but people were surprised to see just how much of a bite he could have when he truly believed in something. Not that he raised issues half as frequently as his brothers.

Eyebrows still knitted together in a dark expression, Richard trudged through to the kitchen, heading immediately for the wine rack. Taking up a bottle, he twisted it around, checking the label for the one he had in mind. Tonight called for a good vintage. Cracking the bottle open, he rested it back on the side as he found himself a glass.

About to relax for the night, a short melodic tune pierced the air. Immediately Richard recognised it as his message tone. With an exasperated sigh, the slender man went to see the cause of the interruption, only to end up slamming the phone back on counter a second later. Spinning on his heel, he grabbed the bottle of red, forgoing the glass entirely as he took a swig from the bottle.

Growling low as he pounded his fists into the punching bag in front of him, George bore the face of a man tense with fury. Every single time, without fail, he ended up either angering Edward or Richard, or both. He was sick of all the constant stress and fighting, sick of the older man goading him and acting high and mighty. He had figured the younger of the three of them might agree, but it seemed that Richard didn't appreciate being involved and was in fact more wound up by this.

Stepping away from the punching bag, he gathered his things. He could understand why the younger man was annoyed, but at the same time he couldn't help the need for support. He was already struggling to hold it together recently without fighting with Edward.

For a long time now,  he and Richard had been drifting apart, they no longer expressed the same affection and care with each other as they once had. They still had sex, but there was nothing in it other than physical pleasure currently. He often wondered is maybe, now the younger man was growing up and finding his own way, maybe he seeked other relationships, perhaps George was no longer what Richard wanted. Maybe even, he had realised it wouldn't last, that they were only hurting each other by continuing.

Previous fears had flooded back into the older man's mind, the same doubts he had experienced in the very beginning now took up a large portion of his mind.

As he walked home, George couldn't stop thinking about how much Richard had changed and grown. He smiled to himself fondly as he thought about the difference in the younger man.  Sighing, he shook off the feeling, he knew he had to let Richard go. He needed the other man to understand it was fine to move on, there would be no hard feelings. As he rounded the final corner onto their road, he sent a quick text to the younger man simply saying; 'We need to talk'.

Walking up the road to their apartment, he took a deep breath, trying to caommhis bad mood, luckily hi smmood had already called when he left the gym. Now, as he took out his keys to the front door, he couldn't help the cold chill that run up his back, he would lie to himself in thinking it was down to wearing a tank top and shorts. He unlocked the door slowly, stepping in and dropping his bag down, closing the door behind him.

Leaning against the kitchen counter, wine bottle still in hand, Richard was debating moving into the livingroom when his phone buzzed for a second time. “I swear to Hell Edward..” The slender man growled as he marched past his phone, taking a large swig of alcohol as he moved, only to stop a few feet beyond. As annoyed as he was with his eldest brother, he couldn’t make himself ignore the message; the contents would have him wondering all night. What if it was something important? It wasn’t like he had to reply if it was just another one of his requests for help.

With a sigh, Richard grabbed his phone, soon realising the message wasn’t from Edward at all, but his other brother. ‘We need to talk’. As true as the message was, he’d rather it not be now. All Richard wanted to do was unwind, not get more tense and irate.

Quickly texting back one handedly, he resigned himself to the situation. ‘At home.’. Richard wasn’t the sort to flee from a problem, no matter how bad it was. If George wanted to talk, then that’s what they would do, and he’d do his best to remain level-headed, even if he wasn’t in the mood to be.

Putting the phone back down, he took himself and the wine through to the livingroom, finally sitting down in his usual chair; legs crossed. Enjoying the brief moment of silence, Richard sunk back into the cushions, occasionally taking a sip from the bottle he rested on the arm of the chair. This little moment of pleasure didn’t last long as he heard the front door unlock and close again.

Bracing himself, Richard took a deep breath before speaking out. “I’m in the front room.” Gone were the days when he got up to greet his brother. Besides, the darker haired man had a feeling this could be a long conversation. Better had here than in the kitchen.

Stepping further into the apartment, the older man walked over to the kitchen, grabbing a glass of water before walking into the front room. He couldn't get rid of the deep frown that seemed to be a permanent feature upon his face over the past few months. He spotted Richard in his usual seat and tired his best to relax, sighing deeply as he sat on the sofa. He noticed the bottle of wine and forced himself not to say anything.

This situation between Edward and himself hadn't made things easier at all. They had been fighting for months with Richard caught in the middle, and it was clearly getting to the youngest out of the three. George often found himself speaking to their Uncle for advice, as he seemed to be the only person who would listen without shouting back.

Taking a sip from his water, he sat back on the sofa, running a hand through his unkempt brown hair. "Rich, I don't know what to say to you...funny really considering I suggested talking but...", he paused, trying to clear his thoughts. "Look, I know you're angry, you have every right to be pissed."

"You're right, I do." Maintaining a stern and somewhat harsh expression, Richard took a long swig, easily half way through the contents of the bottle now. "Aren't you two ever going to stop bickering? You're brothers. How can you let such things divide us." The younger brother wasn't accepting any part in the drama between them, but was willing enough to point out how he had been involved regardless. Their arguing had put a strain on his relationship with both of them.

"Now, you must have something you want to say, George." It took everything Richard had to bite his tongue and stop himself from from adding 'You usually do.', but he'd already decided to remain impassive. "Why else would you be here?"

Folding his arms over, he tensed up slightly, he knew he wasn't going to enjoy this conversation at all, but it had to be said. They needed to address all of the stress and fighting. George didn't think he could handle losing both his brothers over this. He nodded in agreement with Richard before groaning at his next words.

"You know as well as I do how stubborn we both are, and I refuse to back down in these matter, no matter how trivial they may seem. He needs to get a grip. If he wants to carry our family name properly he should stop acting like a damned fool". He had to fight the urge to grind his teeth, biting back his own bitter jealousy in favour of putting the spotlight on Edward's stupidity.

All of this arguing had pushed the three of them further apart than they had ever been. Uncle Richard had assured George that he had every right to be angry even at the times when George though he was overreacting slightly. So much so that the mistakes he had caused through his Uncle's help had come back on him tenfold. He didn't think Edward would ever want to forgive him.

"I'm here to try and get your point of view actually. I won't make any judgments. Though, also...I think our current relationship is coming closer and closer to ending, don't you?".

He scratched the back of his neck out of habit, his own nerves hitting hard.

"I know very well how stubborn you both are. You're more alike than either of you would care to admit." Richard averted his eyes in distaste of the topic, he'd heard enough of it to last a life time, getting it from both sides. After another large swig, he continued. "Shame it's your love for the well-being of our family name which is tearing just that apart." It was hard not to add inflection where he had, Richard knew better than to think either Edward or George were truly out to do what was best for the family. They were both guilty on some level of selfishness.

It was just then that George had managed to leave the younger brother somewhat speechless on two accounts. Asking for his point of view was a surprise enough, but the second part left him not knowing how to respond. A short moment of silence dragged out before he could muster up and response.

"My point of view, since you're suddenly so interested in it has been the same from the start. We need to work together as a family and put any petty arguments aside. There's more than your own goals to think about here. What we decide... No.. What you and Edward decide affects the whole family. You both need to stop doing what's best for yourselves and start thinking about all who it involves." Forcing himself to stop, Richard noticed his tone had started becoming harsher as he went on. It wasn't his intention to make the situation worse, but the topic seemed to be getting to him more-so than usual. He put this down to the earlier stress with Edward and the vast majority of a bottle of wine he'd ploughed through, the youngest had always been a lightweight.

Clearing his throat, Richard wanted to diffuse any potential argument before it had begun, and in a short moment, he had started to regret the topic his brain had decided on.

"As for us, is that your way of trying to break it off?" This was one problem Richard had when drinking, it loosened his tongue, often talking before he had the chance to think, even if only slightly tipsy.

"You've found someone?" Managing to steady his thoughts, the slender man brushed a few curls back, questioning his brother's intent with a calm tone. Somehow the idea bothered him more that he let on. For so long now they had belonged to each other, but perhaps George was right, maybe this was the end of them.
